10 Hard-to-Swallow Fitness Truths
Here goes!!
Posture doesn’t matter anywhere near as much as we once thought it did.
EVERYONE should be strength training. Even your nan (probably).
Training consistently with a suboptimal program is better than inconsistently with the world’s most perfect program. Keep it simple and keep showing up.
Four full-body strength sessions per week will yield better results than four days of training individual muscle groups (yikes, I reckon I’ll get some backlash for this one)
You don’t need to track calories to lose weight. Yup, crazy right?
Also, increasing daily steps is your best movement-based tool for weight loss. Not that 1 hour spin class (don’t stop spinning, just walk more).
You don’t need anywhere near as many nutritional supplements as you’ve been told you do.
Hydration is more important to cognition and performance than you realise. And most people aren’t having enough. Drink up.
It’s okay to train with some pain.
Your Fitbit and Apple watch are massively overestimating calories burned in a workout. Train for performance, not calories.
Bonus truth: I said this a few weeks ago but I’ll say it again. Motivation is nowhere near as important as discipline. Sometimes you won’t feel like it, it’s normal. Just shut off that voice and do the thing anyway.
