Data is a motivator
I freakin’ LOVE data.
When it comes to training, that is.
Anything else and it makes me want to crawl into a hole.
But in the gym, data is our FRIEND. It gives us direction in our training.
Because when we gather data, it allows us to set targets.
And when we have targets to aim for, we tend to train harder, too.
So without going all Rain Man on you (I think that’s politically correct, right?), I highly encourage you to start gathering data on your workouts. Reps performed, sets complete, weight used.
No need for anything fancy - the notes app in your phone will do fine.
Each week, add a rep here and there, add a few lbs/kg here and there too when you’re feeling good. And over time, those small progressions will stack-up to impressive performance gains.
You’ll reduce injury risk, and you’ll build a training habit that makes you feel like you’re really building towards something great.
No more ‘guestimations’.
No more winging it.
