THE #1 Mistake of Sporty Adults
The #1 most common mistake I see amongst athletic adults that’ll get you injured?
Not training for the demands of your sport
I see this pattern a lot: Avid gym-goer wants to try something new, and gets into BJJ/ tennis/ running/ softball etc.
Awesome intentions.
But it’s too late before they realise that years of push-pull-legs just wasn’t enough when it comes to the demands of an aggressive, multi-directional sport.
And often, they’ll end up with meniscus/ ACL tears, ankle sprains, hamstring & groin pulls, a rotator cuff that’s screaming at them etc.
Hindsight is 20/20, and plenty of sporty adults wish they’d done things differently.
Generic bodybuilding style training is AWESOME. And use a lot of it for myself and my clients. But that alone won’t cut it if your goal is to get into sport.
YOU NEED:
- Power development 💥
- Rotational strength 💪🏼
- Repeat landing capacity ⬇️
- Change of direction 👟
- Movement variability 🧠
- A cardiovascular system that can handle more than a 30-minute incline treadmill walk 🫁
So, if you ARE planning to get back into sport come spring, my best advice would be to use the off-season wisely. Seek proper guidance now, so that in 3 months, you’ll have an athletic foundation you can build from, and have done your due diligence in injury prevention.
Sidenote:
Share in the comments below if there’s a sport you’ve always wanted to try, or perhaps have dabbled in but want to take more seriously - always interested to hear!!
That’s all from me :)
